As we hope that Almighty God allows His Elect in eternal life to pray, to plead and protect those they have left on earth, so may I hope I can be also useful in eternity to get you more graces for the glorious work in the Mission-field. Up to now you have unselfishly sacrifice your health and your life for the spreading of the holy Catholic Faith among the poor ignorant non christians in our Millions and endeavor to extend your activity year by year to further villages and territories until all India is converted to our Holy Church. May our dear Lord Jesus hear this my last prayer to make useful members of the militant Church on earth and bring us later altogether at His heavenly banquet. Good-bye to all of you.

Mount Alverno

Our Lord Jesus Christ has given me the grace that He calls me to eternal life not by a sudden, unexpected death, but I had time by a long wearing sickness to prepare for eternity and the surgical operation which may end my earthly life, may be the gate for a better life with all the Angels and Saints whom we have venerated as our Heavenly Patrons and Friends. So let us hope God Almighty will pardon me, through the blood of Jesus Christ, all my sins and failings, and Jesus, our Savior, having cleansed my soul, will come to fulfill the promises. He has given to those who believe in Him and trust in His mercy.

Ghana

THE CMSF – ‘PIONEERING MISSION’ IN GHANA

Responding to the call of the Church in Ghana, a country on the West Coast of Africa, the Franciscan Missionary Brothers are committed to live the fraternal exhortation of our Founder, Brother Pauluz Moritz, “Look after the poor, God will look after you”. The Franciscan Missionary Brothers responded to the clarion call of the Church in Ghana with a MISSION of reaching out to people in the periphery in fidelity to the “Missionary Call” and the “Charism” of “Pioneering Evangelization” the Congregation. It was a challenging response to a crying need in Kwasibuokrom. Today, the Franciscan Missionary Brothers have completed five years in St. Francis Vocational Training Institute in Kwasibuokrom addressing the plight of disadvantaged youth and children living in Kwasibuokrom, West Africa while striving to spread the spirituality of Saint Francis of Assisi and the apostolic zeal of Brother Paulus Moritz since 2013. What became a learning factor for the Brothers over the years working in St. Francis Vocational Training Centre in Kwasibuokrom was that evangelization is a vital need and unemployment is a crucial issue in Ghana and the missionary efforts of the Brothers would be to address the both, through personal witness, catechesis, pastoral care, education and job oriented training programs. The prime aim of starting the Vocational Training Centre at Kwasibuokrom was to address the local communities which are crippled from realizing their potentials and latent capabilities from the perennial issue of unemployment and to equip the youth with employable and productive skills so as to enable them gain employment or become self-employed after the training. Today, the campus of St. Francis Vocational Training Institute has become the magnet for those youth living in poor-rural regions to undergo vocational and technical training in different trades under the leadership and guidance of the Brothers. The Institute has been offering non-formal training programs/courses in Carpentry, Welding, Sheet Metal, and Masonry to the school drop outs and unemployed youth in Kwasibuokrom and nearby regions over the past four years. Education and training are sound investments for the individual. Skills training through apprenticeship and production in carpentry, welding, and masonry sector was a regular feature going on in the campus over the years. The unemployed youth who joined the Institute initially have become competent professionals to meet the industrial demands, promoting self-employment and others as superintendents and masters training the new comers who enrol for different trades in the same Institute. Dear Benefactors of our CMSF Mission, Sharing resources, extending kindness and expressing solidarity with the least ones in the periphery is one of the missionary characteristics of CMSF MISSION all over the world. We encourage you to kindly reflect, pray and discern how you can be in association with CMSF MISSION in Ghana. It might be through greater self-education or by teaching your own children, students or friends about the African Mission of CMSF or through socially responsible investing; or even by visiting the village of Kwasibuokrom which is known for its hospitality in Africa yourself, in a way that puts you in authentic contact with His people. Your gracious presence, prayers and support go a long way in getting the “Joy of the Gospel” of Jesus to people in the periphery. We believe that the charism, “pioneering evangelization” bequeathed to us by our Founder, Brother Pauluz Moritz, so alive and relevant for our times, and can bear new blessed fruits on African soil. May God continue to guide you/us and in His Providence sustain you/us in our efforts to serve His children in this beautiful land of Africa, the best way possible!

Missionsbrüder Des Hl. Franziskus, St. Joseph Garmiswil, Düdingen, Switzerland

The 3rd General Chapter of our Congregation held in 1949 decided to open a house in Switzerland with the intention of initiating a full- fledged Mission Procura of our congregation. The main aim of this centre was to establish a dynamic link between the CMSF and its growing number of benefactors and Well-wishers, with the various projects of the Congregation. Their timely and generous financial support makes it possible to carry forward our missions in different parts of the world successfully and effectively. Initiation of this rather difficult mission was entrusted to one of our Swiss Brothers, Br. Andrew Stolz, who had camped for some time in Fribourg, Switzerland, and obtained the requisite permission of the Local Ordinary Mons. Francis Chariere, to establish the desired Mission Procura in the Diocese of Fribourg. The Brothers had chosen an old house known as Schloessli (small castle) in the suburb of Fribourg city. This village is known as Düdingen, situated about 5 km away from the city of Fribourg. The newly acquired Schloessli was blessed on 1st May 1950 and renamed after St. Joseph Garmiswil. Meanwhile Bro. Remigius Jung, another Brother of Swiss origin, who had been working in India over 20 years, was appointed Superior of this new Mission Procura at Duedingen. Bro. Remigius Jung was accompanied by Bro. Hubert Kumpukal, an Indian citizen, and another Swiss national, Bro. Rufinus, as his companions to organize and run the Procura work. Thereafter many Brothers of happy memory had rendered their services at St. Joseph Garmiswil, Duedingen. As a result of the hard work and perseverance of these pioneers and their successors, a well-organized Mission Procura was established at Duedingen and the same continues even to this day. At present, our Brothers from India have taken over this Mission Procura and continue the legacy of our veteran missionaries with true Franciscan spirit and commitment. Our Mission Procura at Duedingen has contacts with our benefactors from all over Switzerland, both in German and Italian speaking communities. Ever since the establishment of this Mission Procura at Duedingen, we have been able to reach out to a large number of poor and marginalized, according to the directives and guidance of our Superior General. We look forward to many more new helping hands and generous hearts to support this noble cause, so that our pastoral, charitable and humanitarian services will continue to touch and change the lives of many more through the love of Christ. We sincerely thank all our dear benefactors and Well-wishers in different parts of Switzerland for your timely help and continued support, and we remember them in our daily prayers. It is because of your continued support that we are able to reach out to a large number of deserving people, particularly children and Youth in India, Sri Lanka, South America and West Africa even to this day. We are confident that you will be there to collaborate with us even for our further missionary and charitable ventures. Address: Missionsbrüder Des. Hl. Strengthening the ties of Brotherhood is an evangelical imperative for which one has to work ceaselessly; and it is an unparalleled concept, although there is a profound conceptual crisis while applying it universally. However, the sense of the word tells us of solidarity, living in peace and mutual exchange of love and sharing of joys and sorrows. In its wider sense the word means to embrace a relationship with everything that exists: peoples, nations, ideologies, philosophies, the animal and vegetative kingdoms, the mineral and the celestial worlds and thus a universal brotherhood. It is a perfect and ideal relationship, which God intends to bring about with the co-operation of humankind. The Congregation is ever grateful to God Almighty for the abundant blessings showered on us until today and the great work done and the sacrifices made by our veterans to keep the Charism of the Congregation active and alive.
